Leader: David Hamilton
*Please note: The next DivorceCare class will be offered in the Fall of 2010
The Outreach Committee of our church is reaching out to those who are hurting from separation and divorce. David Hamilton is currently working through the leadership training materials for this new Divorce Care ministry. He’s planning to begin ministry sessions at our church this fall. The Divorce Care ministry consists of a weekly series of meetings which include time for prayer, a video seminar, directed small group discussions, and workbook assignments for personal study and reflection. The teaching content on the video seminars are from divorce and recovery experts Kay Arthur, Dr. Bob Barnes, H. Norman Wright, Rose Sweet and Cynthia Yates, and cover topics such as “What is happening to Me?”, “The Road to Healing/Finding Help”, “Facing My Anger/Depression/Loneliness”, “What Does the Owner’s Manual Say?”, “New Relationships”, “Financial Survival”, “Forgiveness”, and many others.
According to the brochure, “There aren’t many people around you who understand the
pain your separation or divorce has caused you, your family and your friends. That’s the reason
for Divorce Care. It’s a special weekly support group and seminar conducted by people who
understand what you are experiencing. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to deal with the
pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.”
David participated through two cycles of the DivorceCare ministry during his separation
and divorce back in 2004-2005. Now he’s ready and wanting to help others through this very
difficult life circumstance. He’s also looking for a co-leader of the female persuasion to help lead
the sessions. The small-group discussions benefit from having both male and female leaders
present. The ideal co-leader will have the following qualifications: a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ, demonstrate spiritual maturity, have experienced and recovered from divorce,
and have a sense of calling to this ministry. If you sense that this might be you, please contact Dave right away.
Further information will be distributed soon in our Sunday bulletins and in brochures
available in the Narthex. The ministry will also be promoted via posters, brochures, public service
announcements, and word-of-mouth – the most effective method. Please contact me if you would
like to help in any way at 315-541-4101 or ps119dh@hotmail.com.
